Meditation

Meditation Kriyas follow shavasana in Kundalini Yoga.

It is important that during meditation the following elements are respected:

  • Postures: Most practices begin sitting upright in Easy Pose (cross-legged) with a straight spine.

  • Mudras: Hand positions like the Gyan Mudra (thumb and index finger touching) direct the flow of energy.

  • Mantras: Chanting or mentally vibrating sounds (such as Har, Sat Nam, or Wahe Guru) anchors the mind and shifts consciousness

  • Breathwork: Controlled patterns, including segmented breathing or long, deep breaths, regulate the nervous system.

Meditation is for eveyone and  has numerous benefits such as:

  • promoting a sense of wellbeing, inner peace, stability and calm
  • developing intuition
  • releasing reactions and unconscious habits, subconscious fears,
  • promoting the ability to focus energy, enhancing effectiveness and efficiency
  • promoting clarity of mind, mental awareness and the ability to be present
  • developing the personality

In Kundalini yoga, we have many options for meditation.

You may notice some meditations include:

Mantras:

Mantras control the mind becausethoughts will come but the mantra will make them vanish.

Malas:

We can use a mala with our mantras moving with our index finger, middle finger, ring finger and little finger from the guru bead.

A focus:

We use a drishti - the place where the eyes focus - tip of the nose, third eye, moon cventer, crown chakra or eyes 1/10th open

Sound:

We use a gong which creates deep relaxation and releases us from our thoughts.

Movement:

The meditation may include rhytmical movement. This provides another layer to help us shift unhelpful patterns and emotions.
