Grounding, Navel Point, Breathing and Alignment

Alignment

The navel point is located inside the bowl of the pelvis in front of the pelvis, approximately three fingers below your belly button in towards the sacrum.

We root our posture from the navel point. Below the navel point we direct our body to the earth. Above the navel point we direct our body to the heavens.

The navel point is the centre from which we both push and reach. It is our connecting point for all postures.

Bend, breathe, twist and communicate from the navel point.

In all the postures, endeavour to engage the navel point and apply the root lock.

When we do this we root down through whichever part of our body is touching the Earth. This can release any unnecessary tension that we may be holding in other parts of our body.

We use bandhas to construct a posture from the inside. They are protective devices. They build a foundation and then protect and hold it. Root lock is our primary earth connection.

In sitting postures, engage your navel point and root down towards the earth. Then the spine one can lengthen upwards.

This creates the ability for energy to move freely in the spinal column and the energetic channel.

Yogic Stance/Mountain Pose

Bring your feet close together, big toes touching, pull in on the navel point, apply the root lock and neck lock as your chest lifts, let your arms hang naturally by your sides.

Engage the Navel Point, apply the root lock and consciously root down from your navel point through your legs.

Let the weight of your lower body sink into the gravitational force of the Earth, while your upper body and spine naturally stretch up towards the heavens. Notice as the chest opens and lifts, let the heart come into a majestic, ruling position, and let the shoulders relax. When we lead with our head, we suppress our heart. So let the heart lead.

Breathing

The amount of time that you can comfortably hold the breath out gives you the measure of your health. It can show you how much prana your tissues are retaining. Good health begins at being able to hold your breath out for 30 seconds.

One purpose of yoga is to increase the stall of prana in the tissues. With correct breathing, you constantly replenish that stored prana.

The key to proper technique in yogic breathing is allowing the ribs and the back to open and expand. it is also important to learn how to exhale correctly. Exhales must be complete.

At the end of a Kundalini yoga kriya, there is a deep relaxation layout in corpse pose. This is the time to completely relax by letting go of conscious breathing, any specific focus, and the body. Do not concentrate on anything. Just let go and completely and surrender
