Unlock inner peace with Kundalini Yoga techniques
Welcome to a journey of self-discovery. On this page, we'll explore fundamental Kundalini Yoga techniques that can help you find peace, even amidst life's challenges. Learn to harness the power of the breath, bandhas, mudras, and mantras to enhance your well-being.

Breathwork
Breathwork, also known as Pranayama, is a cornerstone of Kundalini Yoga. It's a powerful tool to control your energy flow and calm your mind. We'll focus on two essential techniques:
Breath of Fire: This energising breath helps to cleanse the body and increase vitality. To practice the breath of fire, sit in easy pose, inhale through your nose, pulling your navel back to your spine (mentally vibrate Sat) and then exhale relaxing the navel (mentally vibrate Naam)
Long Deep Breathing: This calming breath promotes relaxation and reduces stress. To practice this breath, sit in easy pose or lie down. It may be helpful to place your hand on your belly. Inhale through the nose, letting the belly rise, bring the breath up through the abdomen and the chest to the collarbones and then reverse the breath on the exhale.
Both of these breathing practices become easier with practice.
Practise each for 3 minutes, stopping after one, resuming normal breathing and noticing any changes.
Bandhas
The bandhas are the locks applied to body areas that direct the prana and apana - upward flowing energy and downward flowing energy.
These techniques consolidate the effects of a Kundalini Yoga practice and direct prana within the physical and energetic pathways to promote healing, energizing, and strengthening of the whole human being.
The Sanskrit word bandha means to hold, tighten, or lock. This describes the precise physical action involved in bandha practice. The bandhas aim to redirect the neurobiological energies of the body into the central channel of the spine for the purpose of spiritual awakening.
“Bandhas protect and project, that is what they are for. They protect the alignment of your spine and project your energy where you want it to go.” – Guru Prem Singh Khalsa
In Kundalini Yoga practice, we refer to four bandhas - neck lock, chest/abdomen lock and pelvic/root lock. When all three are required, the term Great Lock will be used.

Mudras: seals of energy
Mudras are specific hand gestures that create energetic circuits in the body. They help to direct and seal energy, enhancing the effects of your practice. Common mudras include Gyan Mudra (thumb and index finger touching) for wisdom and prayer pose (hands at heart center) for balance.
Full instructions will be provided for others as necessary.

Mantras: sound vibrations
Mantras are sacred sounds or words that create specific vibrations in the mind and body. Chanting mantras can focus the mind, uplift your spirit, and connect you to a deeper sense of self. Popular mantras include "Sat Nam" (truth is my identity) and "Wahe Guru" (an expression of ecstasy).
